National Country Cooking Month

When we think of country cooking, we think of those delicious, filling meals that we grew up on. The ones that take you right back to grandma’s kitchen, either early in the morning before a big day or the ones that close out hours of playing with the cousins without a care in the world. We want to bring that feeling home, right into our kitchen! These recipes will do the trick, whether you choose to eat them in the morning or want to have breakfast for dinner 😉

Country Style Breakfast Sausage
Ingredients
1 package Uncle Charley’s Breakfast Links, crumbled
1 t sage
1 t sugar
1 t dried mustard
1 t onion powder
1 t black pepper

Directions
1. Combine meat and seasonings thoroughly while heating a skillet over medium-high.

2. Coat pan with non-stick spray and shape a small patty from meat. Place in pan and continue shaping patties – you should have about 12 of them when finished.

3. Flip patties when beginning to brown, then add a few tablespoons of water to the pan and cover to allow sausages to cook all the way through.

Cheesy Grits
Ingredients
2 c whole milk
2 c water
1 ½ t salt
1 coarse cornmeal
½ t black pepper
4 T butter
4 oz sharp cheddar, shredded

Directions
1. Place the milk, water, and salt into a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.

2. Once the mixture comes to a boil, gradually add the cornmeal while whisking.

3. When all of the cornmeal has been incorporated, decrease the heat to low and cover.4. Remove the lid and whisk frequently, every 3 to 4 minutes, to prevent grits from sticking or forming lumps; make sure to get into corners of pot when whisking. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes or until mixture is creamy.

4. Remove from the heat, add the pepper and butter, and whisk to combine. Once the butter is melted, gradually whisk in the cheese a little at a time. Serve immediately.

Serve your breakfast sausage and grits up with some scrambled eggs and bacon – your family’s bellies are sure to be full after this delicious meal!
